Safety Summaries for Monsanto’s Breeding Stack Products

Breeding stacks (also referred to as combined event products or stacked trait products) are those plant products produced through conventional breeding between plants carrying independent biotechnology-derived events. The breeding stacks therefore express the traits of multiple, single event1 products have been combined together by conventional breeding (CropLife International, January 2015). More information regarding Stacked Traits is available on the CropLife International website.

The safety assessment for breeding stacks relies on the safety assessment of each single event product that is included in the stacked trait product. When a breeding stack product is created, field and laboratory testing are done to verify that the stack product performs as expected and that the introduced genes continue to function as they did as the single event products. This information demonstrates that it is appropriate to rely on the previously performed safety assessments.

A table linking Monsanto breeding stack products directly to the safety assessments for the underlying single event products can be found below. NOTE: There are many seed products available containing Monsanto licensed traits; this table includes only those breeding stack products directly sold or developed by Monsanto.

 

Safety Summaries for Monsanto's Breeding Stack Products

The following table lists Monsanto’s breeding stack products by crop. For each breeding stack product, the single event products from which the stack was created are listed along with biotech trait(s), single event product developer and links to the product safety summaries, regulatory submission documents, regulatory decision documents (U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Assessment, Food Standards of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) and Extended List of Decision Documents) and peer reviewed safety publications.

For single event products that were not developed by Monsanto, links are provided to similar safety-related documents, where available, that were prepared by the single event product developer.
