Monsanto Company Earns Recognition as a 2018 'Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion'
ST. LOUIS (July 9, 2018) – Monsanto Company has been named by the Disability Equality Index (DEI) as a 2018 “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.” The listing is compiled of 126 global companies from 25 unique business sectors. Out of a possible 100 points, Monsanto received an Index score of 80.
The DEI is a joint initiative between the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the U.S. Business Leadership Network (USBLN). The Disability Equality Index is considered the most trusted and comprehensive benchmarking tool for disability inclusion. It measures key performance indicators across organizational culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.
“This is a wonderful accomplishment for Monsanto to be recognized as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion,” said Michelle Rahn, Monsanto’s HR Lead for Global Biotechnology. Rahn is also President of Monsanto’s ACCESS Business Resource Network, which supports the recruitment, retention and advancement of employees with visible and non-obvious disabilities.
“There are so many people within Monsanto who continue to help improve our physical workspaces and employment processes,” she added. “We have teams that have helped improve the accessibility of our campuses in St. Louis for both employees and visitors and others who are helping to ensure we have an inclusive hiring and accommodation request process.”
The ACCESS Network also supports family members, farmer customers and those in communities where Monsanto’s employees live and work through education, communication and training regarding disabilities.
“The commitment to disability inclusion is becoming a priority for more and more corporations,” said Helena Berger, President and CEO of AAPD. “While we have made great strides since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the number of disabled individuals getting hired has not significantly increased. The DEI was created to help advance employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities.”
“Although we are far from true inclusion of people with disabilities across the enterprise, the DEI signals corporate America is recognizing inclusion as a competitive edge and beneficial for all,” said Jill Houghton, President and CEO of USBLN.
The AAPD and USBLN began the Disability Equality Index four years ago. The 2018 businesses recognized as a Best Place to Work for Diversity Inclusion will be honored during the USBLN Annual Conference in Las Vegas on July 11. About Monsanto Company
