Monsanto works to substantially and meaningfully improve people's lives around the world. As a company, we are focused on strengthening both farming communities and the communities where we live and work. VANGUARD, Monsanto’s Veterans and National Guard Network, focuses on bringing together Monsanto members who supported their country or state through military service. As an organization, we are proud to partner with military groups in building and enhancing communities through generously sharing time, money and resources to support a wide variety of projects.
Arbor Health is a residential care facility specializing in the mental health treatment of Veterans focusing on multiple areas of reintegration into everyday life utilizing the Eden Alternative Concept incorporating plants, animals and relationships. H.E.R.O.E.S CARE Freedoms Golf Tournament
The mission of H.E.R.O.E.S. Care is to provide service members, veterans, and their families care and support before, during and after deployment in the communities where they live. Since 2003, we have provided material, financial and other support for more than 100,000 military families.
Hosted by the H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, Freedoms Golf Tournament formerly known as Boots on the Green started 6 years ago with 36 golfers and has developed into a program that now serves hundreds each year. Monsanto has been a proud sponsor of the event for the last 4 years. For the past six years, an average of 96 cents of every dollar received has been returned to military families in program services. Few charities are as effective at financial and material stewardship.

Toys for Tots
“Monsanto has been supporting Toys for Tots for nearly 15 years. It’s an important part of Monsanto’s philanthropic efforts because of the effect it has on the St. Louis community,” said Tom Butler, Selectives Chemistry Manager and VANGUARD talent acquisition lead. "Toys for Tots" is a program to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. VANGUARD business resource network members lead the toys and food drive every year at multiple Monsanto locations.

Veteran’s Day Greater St Louis Honor Flight (GSLHF)
Each month Monsanto VANGUARD members support GSLHF through volunteerism at the Welcome Home event raising money for the organization by selling raffle tickets, GSLHF branded merchandise and providing flag holders for the sea of flags.
On Nov. 11, two Monsanto retirees and three VANGUARD members joined a special Veteran’s Day Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The mission of the event is to recognize our veterans – most urgently our World War II veterans – with a day of honor, remembrance and celebration through a one-day, all-expenses paid trip to visit the war monuments and service memorials, built to honor their service and sacrifice.
Elmer Lee Boehm, Monsanto retiree and WWII veteran, Patton’s Third Army, Purple Heart, attended the flight. According to Boehm’s daughter, "one of the reasons he wanted to attend the Honor Flight is because he heard Monsanto supported flights through the VANGUARD Network."
Prior to the flight, more than 40 volunteers from Monsanto’s IT department joined forces with eight Washington University students (in the event called Codefest) to build a cloud based web application to benefit the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight. Network members donated over 600 hours of time to begin work on the systems to automate online entry for veterans, guardians and volunteers; streamline processes for flight scheduling; and, in managing donor and volunteer information. Monsanto IT continues to deliver features for this software logging over 2000 hours to date as of summer 2015.
