Monsanto's Executive Team declared that building a diverse and inclusive organization would give Monsanto a competitive advantage. The team recognized that diversity is central to our success. To sustain and grow our business across all world areas, we require diverse business perspectives and the flexibility to work with a variety of people wherever we conduct business. Our work must reflect and respect the cultures, ideas and interests of all the consumers we serve and the communities we touch.
Monsanto's commitment to diversity is reflected prominently in two key components of Our Pledge:
Dialogue: We will listen carefully to diverse points of view and engage in thoughtful dialogue to broaden our understanding of issues in order to better address the needs and concerns of society and each other.
Respect: We will respect the religious, cultural and ethical concerns of people throughout the world.

Commitment to diversity results in programs aimed at external audiences, such as supplier diversity, as well as our employees. Programs supporting diversity among employees include affinity groups and people teams. Recognizing that different members of the company have broad and varied needs, Monsanto encourages and supports a variety of employee-organized affinity groups in a number of functional and technical areas. A common focus of these teams is ongoing professional and technical education and development.
Examples of these affinity groups include networks for women, Hispanic, Asians and African Americans, as well as scientists from different disciplines. In addition to these corporate-wide groups, several manufacturing sites have organized People Teams, commissioned to assess local developmental needs of their people, and to design learning and networking experiences to meet those specific needs.
